nfk's 10.5+ mile urban trail with something for everyone.
The Elizabeth River Trail (or ERT) is Norfolk’s 10.5 mile (and growing!) urban trail located along the Elizabeth River, with its Foundation missioned to ensure its inclusivity, resilience, and connectivity in the communities it touches. The Trail connects 28 diverse neighborhoods, four higher education institutions, multiple entrepreneurial and innovation centers, and a range of businesses and services- also encouraging multi-modal transportation and spaces for communities to gather and individuals to recharge.
overview
The Elizabeth River Trail Foundation realizes the need for inclusivity, resilience, and connectivity in and among diverse communities on the Trail, and wants to make sure Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is foundational and intentional in informing its organizational practices, programming, and community engagement. In order to make sure the Trail is truly a Trail for all, ERTF formed a committee that focuses outreach plans, data collection, diversification of Trail users, and making sure the different voices of the community are represented and celebrated.

"Rarely does one get to witness such commitment, passion and creative thinking in a team member and leader. Ms. Harrell shows up, goes above and beyond and often finds creative solutions to organizational problems. The connections she brings to our Foundation and her vision for bettering this region is inspiring and invaluable.”
